Security

If you have confidential data or simply do not desire one person or department to see particular information within IMS, you will need to consider a few options. IMS-e Paper Route has limited security, which allows for only one password using the Windows Log-in. If you are using IMS-e Paper Route and need additional security you may purchase the Security Management Utility.  The Security Management Utility only offers generic log-in user names and passwords.  Passwords may be reset when needed.

IMS-ENTERPRISE

IMS-Enterprise allows for many layers of security. You may have multiple ways to add levels of security. There is no need to use all security options for over-complicating your security needs and creating too many redundancies to manage.

1. The first step in security starts with installing IMS-viewers on each computer. You may allow each computer to only see a Profile that user is allowed to access; there is no way for other departments to know other profiles even exist.

2. Each computer has its own log-in password requirements.

3. The ODBC (database management system) typically has its own level of added security.

4. Security Manager Module is an IMS feature that adds record level security within an actual profile. This feature can define which users who are allowed to view a Profile are allowed to see certain documents within this profile. This is an additional cost; please see Security Manager within this document and/or contact your IMS Reseller.
NOTE:  The Security Manager Module has been replaced and is a standard feature within the Management Interface module for IMS-Enterprise 4.0.
