Choosing the right scanner

Any twain based scanner will work with either IMS-PLUS or IMS-ENTERPRISE versions. IMS-ENTERPRISE also works with scanners using ISIS or skuzzy. When selecting a scanner, you must consider what your scan volume will be on a monthly basis. If doing less than 100 scans a month, you could possibly manage using a single flat-bed device. If your office will expect to do less than 2,000 scans monthly, you may want to consider an inexpensive multipage scanner from a retail store. For anything over 2,000 monthly scans, you will need a true commercial scanner that offers some type of service/support. You will need to figure out how often a kit replacement and other parts/supplies will need replacing based on your monthly scan volume.

If choosing an MFP (multifunctional printer/copier) for scanning high volumes, you may want to consider a dedicated scanner that offers a multitude of features and options. The most popular would be batch scanning (see definition), color drop-outs, blank-page removal, skew-removal, faster speeds (especially when printed on front & backside), and much more. MFPs do have some advantages over a scanner. MFPs can be more accessible to a multi-user environment and are not limited to just one computer for scanning documents. MFPs may already exist in your office and save the expense of purchasing a dedicated scanner.

MFP integration with IMS
There are several MFPs that allow for indexing from the copier. This system allows for a multi-user environment to use a copier to scan and follow the drop down prompts, answering just a few questions and then the documents with all the index fields are immediately populated within IMS. Please contact your IMS Reseller or Imminent Technologies Inc. www.imnt-tech.com for a compatibility reference sheet and how to set a device up for scanning.
